A JOLT of full-on advice can only help

[Greengage Mobile] was asked to blog about how its product or service has changed since starting JOLT.

Just when my co-founders and I thought startup life couldn’t get any busier, our company, Greengage Mobile, got accepted into one of Canada’s premiere technology accelerators. That brought us into daily contact with experienced, knowledgeable and brilliant advisors. We have only been at JOLT a few weeks, yet we have pitched Greengage Mobile 100 times, possibly more. Each pitch is a test for the company, and for each of us personally. Feedback and advice has come on every angle, from the business model, to software integration, to the pitch slides and even pitching voice.

All of this advice coming in such a short period at the beginning of the program can be a lot to assimilate. We have our eyes on the company’s vision, yet remain eager and open-minded to change and innovation.

We applied lean methodology principles and undertook extensive market interviews when we started Greengage. This has proven integral to the development of our mobile application and software. The knowledge we gained from these interviews demonstrated that getting employees engaged in corporate sustainability programs is not always easy. Large enterprises are looking for new, efficient ways of taking on this challenge, which is a niche Greengage hopes to fill.

We have already signed up a number of beta clients and will keep the lines of communication open to hear about their challenges and about how Greengage works to engage their employees in sustainability and improve their bottom line.

Ash Maurya (author of the Running Lean), who we met two weeks ago at JOLT, suggested this open dialogue with clients never end — that we always strive to better understand our clients’ uses, and use their feedback to chart a path forward. With that feedback and the advice we are getting at JOLT, we are working toward providing the best application of our mobile solution to everyday sustainability challenges in the workplace.

JOLT has provided us with access to wonderful people with incredible insight into how to run and build a business, but we recognize ultimately it is our job to determine what advice is the best fit with the mission and vision of Greengage. No one knows “your business and clients like you do,” was the advice one JOLT mentor gave us.
