Greengage Mobile was asked: How instrumental has branding, UX/UI and/or product development been with your customer development?
At Greengage Mobile, product development and customer development have gone hand in hand. Staying close and working with initial and prospective clients throughout the early stages of product design/development has ensured we are building a minimal viable product that meets their immediate needs.
The product development process began with several market interviews, which allowed us to hone in on the pain points around employee engagement with a number of sustainability managers, HR managers, and CEOs. These interviews allow us to ask questions, brainstorm, and discuss potential solutions with the very people who are looking for a solution.
This process has been integral in the development of both product and clients. As the conversation unfolds with clients, we gain insights into our product that we hadn’t thought of but equally important, it strengthens client relationships.
When clients offer ideas on different features and then see the features embedded in the product, it becomes something they too are building. This collaboration is key to customer development. Not only does it help you create a better product and stimulate sales, butit also is invaluable in initiating discussions with other clients.
Explaining to potential clients why some features have been included, and identifying that it came from client collaboration, shows we are doing our homework, sharing what is working, and fulfilling our vision of creating software that does all that it can to meet customers’ needs.
In our eyes, customer development is as important as product development in the enterprise space. Plus, it can be tremendously rewarding to give a demo to someone with whom you’ve had market interviews and seeing that same startup sparkle in their eyes when they see you’ve inserted a feature they suggested.
